The Jammu and Kashmir police have thwarted a possible drone attack by recovering a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including six Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and one grenade, from a package that was dropped from a drone near the Line of Control (LOC) in the Akhnoor sector.
The package was spotted during a joint search operation by the police and the Army in Palanwallah, a village close to the LOC. The box looked suspicious, prompting the bomb disposal squad to be summoned. Upon examination, the box was found to contain nine grenades, a pistol, 38 rounds, and one IED with batteries.
The police suspect that the box was dropped using a drone for the use of terrorists. “The box in which the arms and explosive material were kept is similar to what had been dropped by terrorists based across the LOC in the past,” the police said.
The Khour police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) and are investigating the case. This recovery is a significant achievement in the efforts to maintain security and peace in the region.
This incident reveals the growing use of drones for illegal activities, such as smuggling arms and ammunition across borders. It also shows the challenges faced by security forces in keeping an eye on vast and often difficult terrains.
As the probe continues, the authorities are likely to take more steps to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure the safety and security of the region.
