New Delhi – Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the scientists and engineers of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for the successful launch and operation of Aditya-L1, India’s first space-based mission to study the Sun. He said that India’s relentless scientific efforts will continue to enhance the understanding of the Universe for the benefit of humanity.

Aditya-L1 is a historic mission that was launched on September 2, 2023, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. It travelled 1.5 million km from the Earth and reached the Lagrangian point 1 (L1), a stable point in space where the gravitational forces of the Earth and the Sun are balanced. From there, it will observe and study the Sun’s outermost layer, the corona, as well as the photosphere and the chromosphere, using seven scientific instruments.

Here are seven reasons why Aditya-L1 is a spectacular success and a proud achievement for India:

  • It is India’s first space-based mission to study the Sun. Aditya-L1 is a pioneering mission that will provide a comprehensive view of the Sun and its dynamics. It will help in understanding the origin and evolution of the Sun, the causes of solar flares and coronal mass ejections, and the variations in solar irradiance.
  • It will provide valuable insights into the solar activity and its impact on Earth and near-space weather. Aditya-L1 will monitor the solar activity and its effects on the Earth’s climate, communication, navigation, and power systems. It will also help in predicting and mitigating the adverse impacts of space weather events.
  • It will benefit the global scientific community, as the data will be shared with other countries. Aditya-L1 will contribute to the international efforts to study the Sun and its influence on the solar system. The data from the mission will be made available to the scientific community worldwide for further analysis and research.
  • It will pave the way for future missions to study the Sun and other celestial bodies. Aditya-L1 will demonstrate India’s capabilities and expertise in space exploration and technology. It will also inspire and motivate the next generation of scientists and engineers to pursue their dreams and aspirations in the field of space science.
  • It is a testament to India’s scientific prowess and innovation. Aditya-L1 is a result of the hard work and dedication of the scientists and engineers of ISRO and other institutions. It showcases India’s excellence and innovation in space science and technology.
  • It is a momentous occasion for the cultural and spiritual heritage of the country. Aditya-L1 is a tribute to the ancient and modern traditions of India, which have revered and celebrated the Sun as a source of life and energy. It is also a symbol of the unity and diversity of the country, as people from different regions, religions, and backgrounds have contributed to the mission.
  • It is a glorious event for the nation and the world. Aditya-L1 is a proud achievement for India and a remarkable contribution to the global knowledge and understanding of the Sun. It is a glorious event for the nation and the world. !
