Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his concerns about the dangers of artificial intelligence (AI) and its possible impact on humanity in the 21st century. Speaking at the inaugural session of the Global AI Summit 2023 in New Delhi on Tuesday, Modi said that AI could play the biggest role in destroying humanity if not used responsibly and ethically.

Modi said that AI has the power to transform every sector of the economy and society, from agriculture to healthcare, from education to defence, from manufacturing to entertainment. He said that India is committed to harnessing the potential of AI for the benefit of its 1.3 billion people and for the world at large.

However, he also cautioned that AI poses serious challenges and risks that need to be addressed urgently. He said that AI could threaten the security, privacy, and sovereignty of nations and individuals. He said that AI could also create social and economic inequalities, unemployment, and ethical dilemmas. He said that AI could even lead to the extinction of humanity if it surpasses human intelligence and control.

Modi urged the global community to work together to create a common framework and guidelines for the development and use of AI. He said that AI should be aligned with human values and goals, and should respect the diversity and dignity of all cultures and civilizations. He said that AI should be used for the common good of humanity, and not for the selfish interests of a few.

Modi also announced that India will launch a national AI strategy in 2024, which will outline the vision, mission, and objectives of the country’s AI development. He said that the strategy will focus on promoting innovation, research, and education in AI, as well as creating a conducive ecosystem for AI startups and industries. He said that the strategy will also address the legal, ethical, and social aspects of AI, and ensure its inclusive and sustainable growth.

Modi concluded his speech by saying that AI is the electricity of the 21st century, and that India is ready to play a leading role in shaping its future. He said that India’s ancient wisdom and modern technology can offer a unique perspective and contribution to the global AI discourse. He said that India’s motto is “AI for All”, and that India’s vision is “AI for Good”.
