On the fateful night of November 1, a shocking incident unfolded at the Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU). A female student fell victim to a brutal gang-rape, perpetrated by three individuals. The suspects, allegedly associated with the BJP IT Cell, were apprehended and the case is currently under investigation.

The Incident- Key Suspect

The victim, a BTech student at IIT-BHU, was accosted while walking with a friend. The perpetrators, arriving on motorcycles, separated the two. They then proceeded to forcibly undress the victim, assault her, and record the horrific act. The victim was subsequently threatened with the circulation of the video.

Campus Reaction and Security Measures

The incident sparked widespread protests on the campus, with students demanding enhanced security. In response, the institute is contemplating the installation of barricades around its premises.

Initially, the First Information Report (FIR) included Sections 354 (B) and 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), pertaining to the use of criminal force to disrobe a woman and insult to a woman’s modesty, respectively. However, following the victim’s statement to a magistrate, Section 376 (D) of the IPC, relating to gang rape, was added to the FIR.
